Basic Thread Painting

You DON"T need to be an artist. In this basic class I teach you how to make your own machine embroideries that can look as nice as any digitized image, made without having to own the $6000.00 machine. All you need is a basic straight & zig-zag stitch sewing machine that will allow you to drop your feed-dogs & do free motion. This is just learning to color using needle & thread for your Crayons!

You will be able to make your own thread embroideries that can be your own design, or you can choose from images on printed fabric, or stamps, or many sources. We will discuss a little about copyright rights & wrongs, but it won't be painful, & we'll have fun & we'll PLAY!

Advanced Thread Painting

In my advanced thread painting class I teach you techniques to create an unlimited number of things, from your own special fabric or scarves,to jewelry to lamp shades & bowls. In class we will create a lapel pin with a glass cabachon for the center. This will all be done on your regular sewing machine & can be done either free motion or regular stitching for a varitety of different looks.

                         Minimal Marking,Free Motion Machine Quilting

In my machine quilting class, I show you my techniques for easy minimal marking. I share with you my favorite tools that make quilting so much easier. I show how I handle a large quilt on my regular little home machine, including a few little tricks that make it so much easier. We go over several different designs, including easy ways to make elegant feathers. We will touch on how traupunto can be done by machine. & we have a good time!

I don't require any books, but if you're looking for a good one, I have bought & read several of them, & as far as I'm concerned the only one you ever need is Harriet Hargrave's Heirloom Machine Quilting book. This is the book that taught me how to machine quilt, & if you read most of the other books out there you'll find that the others all learned from Harriet, or someone else who learned from her.

                                              Lectures

In my lectures I take you to my part of the world, Alaska. I show you what inspires me & I share my work. I will bring quilts & dolls & purses, & let you touch & get up close & personal with the works. I will modify the lecture to suit your preference & situation. I'm happy to show slides if you like, it's up to you what you want from me. I'm pretty easy, just ask me.

ABC's of Embellishment

This class will be an exploration of unusual items for embellishment. Students are encouraged to be creative, & think outside of the box. I have organized the class using the Alphabet, but don't expect students to stick to the alphabet for the samples that they produce in class. This will be about exploring fun things like Angelina fibers, & metals, papers, paints, powders, different uses for fusible webs, & glues & many other unusual objects. These things can be applied in art quilts, greeting cards, an updated twist on crazy quilting, ATCs, & Postquards & even some wearable arts. The class will be divided into 4 parts, exploring different embellishments in each class.
